Having Added Choice makes it easy to find doctors and facilities for your care. You can choose your provider and where to get care with the three options: 1) Kaiser Permanente’s full-service care delivery system 2) Contracted Providers and 3) Any licensed non-contracted provider 1.
Kaiser Permanente provider option
Kaiser Permanente physicians and medical centers.
- Access any Kaiser Permanente provider, affiliated hospital, or pharmacy, all within the integrated delivery system.
- You can see Kaiser Permanente Hawaii physicians at any one of our 20+ facilities on Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island, and Kauai, and affiliated Kaiser Permanente physicians on Kauai, Lanai, and Molokai.

Contracted provider option
- You have access to Contracted Providers based upon location of services2. With Contracted Providers, you don’t have to select a personal doctor. You can see any Contracted Provider without a referral. To find up-to-date Contracted Providers or confirm if your current provider is part of the Network, you can search for Providers by Location, or call Customer Service at 1-800-238-5742 (TTY 711), Monday thru Friday 8a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. HST.
In Kaiser Permanente States The Added Choice Provider Directory shows providers in CA, CO, GA, HI, MD, OR, VA, WA, and DC. You have access to more than 3,000 Kaiser Permanente Insurance Company (KPIC) contracted providers and 160 contracted hospitals and care facilities in Hawaii 2. Additionally, the PHCS Network provides access to more than 4,000 providers and 180 contracted facilities in Hawaii and more than 239,000 contracted providers and 20,000 contracted facilities in other Kaiser Permanente States 3 . Be sure to check if your provider is a contracted provider prior to receiving services.
Non-Kaiser Permanente States outside of CA, CO, GA, HI, MD, OR, VA, WA and DC the Cigna HealthcareSM PPO Network provides access to care 4.
- No referral is needed for office visits to Contracted Providers.
- It is always a good idea to call the provider’s office to confirm that they’re a Contracted Provider.
Can I nominate a physician to become a Contracted Provider?
- Yes. If you were seeing a doctor who is not a member of either the PHCS Network within
Kaiser Permanente States (CA, CO, GA, HI, MD, OR, VA, WA and DC) or the Cigna Healthcare PPO Network outside of the Kaiser Permanente States before you became an Added Choice member, you can nominate that doctor to join our network. Please keep in mind your provider may choose not to be contracted. - To nominate a PHCS provider in Hawaii or other Kaiser Permanente states, visit Nominate a PHCS Provider

Non-contracted provider option
Choose any licensed provider anywhere for care.
- Through the non-contracted provider option, you can work directly with any licensed provider or facility anywhere.
- No referral is needed for office visits to non-contracted physicians or specialists.
- Just remember that this option generally has the highest out-of-pocket costs.
